All lies matter: Did the Messiah eat lamb during Passover and should we during captivity?

Updated: Apr 28

*Due to the practice of this ministry/article instead of using Jesus, we will use the messiah’s Hebrew name Yahusha

We’re living in a society that can be both hypocritical in one instance and condemn others in another whose stance doesn’t line up with the status quo. This notion of society loves to cherry pick around what they desire to do biblically and then create a doctrine around it. For example, even though the scriptures condemn homosexuality (Leviticus 18:22-30, Leviticus 20:13) or the eating of pig (pork) or shellfish (Leviticus 11:4-7, 10 read the whole dietary law there and Deuteronomy 14:3, 7-10 read the whole dietary law), deceptive doctrines have been created around the idea that somehow the messiah has paid the price for us not to keep the ordinances that was established in the front of the book. Psalms 119: 105 states For ever, O Yahuah, your word is settled in heaven. Preachers such as T.D Jakes have made it a point to imply that Ruth/Naomi and David/Jonathon had a relationship that seemed borderline homosexual and even used weird incorporation of New Testament passages that means something entirely different. That’s straight up blasphemy! Even preachers and even teachers “in the Israelite awakening” have used Shaul’s (Paul’s) writings and horrible breakdowns to justify you can eat whatever you want because the Messiah whom the world calls Jesus hung it on a tree. That’s straight up blasphemy! Isaiah 66:17 declares destruction by saying “They that sanctify themselves and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith Yahuah.” Even though in the very New Testament that many of us hold near and dear condemns both actions in several but ultimately one statement. “Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” To know what an abomination is, you need to go to the front of the book that defines what sin/abominations are. And by the way, Revelation was written after the messiah died and resurrected. 1Corinthians 6:9  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of Elohim? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of Elohim.

As you see, Shaul (Paul) says that who does things things won't make it to the Kingdom of Elohim. And that's new testament! (Mic drop)!

So why deal with any of this at the beginning currently? Because there has been so much misinformation from both sides of the coin (from both Christianity and Israelites). Why? All because either someone doesn’t want to do/keep something or because doctrines of devils have been received to pull people away from the truth. The latter statement is a cunning way the enemy has crept in and seduced, enticed, and influenced people that a lie is actually the truth. 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which Elohim hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. What is truth? Psalms 119:142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law (Torah-instructions, teaching, directions) is the truth.  Daniel 9:13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before Yahuah our Elohim, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand your truth.

So, the question is, did the messiah eat lamb during the Passover? If those of us who are messianic (torah keeping believers in messiah) believe Yahusha (Yeshua/Jesus) was sinless and thus our messiah, then we must know He kept the Torah (or as translated incorrectly, law). Why, might you ask? Because if he didn’t, he would’ve been in sin and disqualified from being our messiah. 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. So before we come to Yahusha, let’s see what the Torah (law) says about Passover: Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is Yahuah’s passover. 24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. (For the mercy of those who missed the 1st Passover, the 2nd month is instituted as a make-up Passover) Numbers 9:11 The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it. (In order to have a bone, you have to be a living creature)

Deuteronomy 16:1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto Yahuah you Elohim: for in the month of Abib Yahuah your Elohim brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. 2 You shall therefore sacrifice the passover unto Yahuah your Elohim, of the flock and the herd, in the place which Yahuah shall choose to place his name there. And we can go on and on… But before we move on, the question is, where were they keeping these Passover feasts at when Yah instituted it? The very 1st was in captivity/slavery in Egypt and all the others were kept in the wilderness BEFORE they entered the promised land. So, can we keep the Passover memorial outside of the land of Israel? You bet we can! Our ancestors did it so why can’t we? Also, should we keep the Passover in our captivity? You bet we should! Why? Because they 1st kept it in captivity and it is an everlasting ordinance established by Yahuah through Moses, not by Moses. Throughout the observances of the day, we can see how elements of the celebration were modified by Yahuah. Such as after the Exodus 12 passover, blood is not applied to the door posts anymore.

Why? Because that was a specific reason to protect the Israelites during Yah’s killing of the firstborn. The blood served as a token then just as it does in the New Testament as a token of redemption for us (Exodus  12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt). Another modification is in Exodus 12, Passover was observed in the homes/houses of the Israelites, but after the exodus, it became a national celebration. Such as Leviticus 23 which will be dealt with shortly. To answer the question further is going to be connected to this next part. But before we do that, understand that we are not observing Passover, but the memorial of Passover. Passover was observed in Exodus 12, but after that, every year was supposed to be an observance of looking back, and later we’re going to see looking forward. Leviticus 23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of Yahuah, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. 4 These are the feasts of Yahuah, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Yahuah’s passover. The word seasons and feasts used here is the Hebrew word Moedim (in the singular it’s moed). The word moedim/moed does not mean seasons like summer, spring, winter, and fall. It’s Lexicon: Strong's H4150 מוֹעֵד which means appointed place, appointed time, meeting, sacred season, set feast, appointed season.

This indicates that all of Yahuah’s feast days are appointments scheduled by Him to meet with Him. These are not our feasts (appointed times), but the book teaches us these are HIS appointed times. Who are we to break our appointment with the creator? Are we that grand? Are we stronger than Him? Absolutely not! The other word to look at is convocation. What does convocation mean? The word convocation here is the Hebrew word miqra מִקְרָא Strong's H4744-a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the place); also a rehearsal: —assembly, calling, convocation, reading.

Notice the word means not only a gathering or assembling but also a rehearsal. Rehearsal of what? Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith Yahuah, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, Yahuah Tsidqeknu (YAHUAH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS). 7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Yahuah, that they shall no more say, Yahuah liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; 8 But, Yahuah liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

So, the observance of Passover was to reflect on what Yah did for us in Egypt; BUT the rehearsal points to what He is going to do with us through Yahusha our messiah from the captivities we’re in now! Our Passover points to Yahusha which has always been there from the lamb of old, to the lamb to come. John 1:29 The next day Yahuchanan (John) seeth Yahusha coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of Elohim, which taketh away the sin of the world. 36 And looking upon Yahusha as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of Elohim! Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Now the context of Revelation 13 to verse 8 is dealing with the dragon (Satan) giving power to the beast system/empire to make war with the saints, conquer them/the whole world, people are going to honor that empire/system deeply whose names are not in the book of life, and the book belongs to someone called a “Lamb that was slain (or planned to be slain in creation) before the earth had a foundation! So, from the narrative, Yahusha our messiah (whom the world calls Jesus and some call Yeshua) is considered the lamb of Yah and He was without blemish, fault, spot, and/or sin. Luke 23:14 Said unto them, You have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

John 19:4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him

John 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 9:28 So Messiah was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation

There’s so many more texts we can go to such as Isaiah 53:1-8 (to show messiah would die/be afflicted because of the transgressions of others), Daniel 9:26 (Messiah was going to die but not for himself), John 11:47-53 (Caiaphas prophesies that Yahusha will die for the nation and gather the children of Elohim from the diaspora), etc.… Now that we’ve established all of this, let’s see if Yahusha the messiah kept Passover, and ate lamb, or just bread.

John 2:23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

Mark 14:12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt you that we go and prepare that you mayest eat the passover? 13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. 14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say you to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. 16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. 18 And as they sat and did eat, Yahusha said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

Matthew 26:17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Yahusha, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for you to eat the passover? 18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19 And the disciples did as Yahusha had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Luke 22:7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. 13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of Elohim.

Now 1st of all notice how the texts mention the Passover must be killed! There are some that don’t want to keep Passover that says he didn’t eat lamb. Well, my question is if he only ate bread (because that’s what he broke as they began to eat) then how can you kill bread? In order for something to be killed, it has to be a living creature. Also, notice Yahusha said to tell the landlord/owner of the room “where is the room that I CAN EAT WITH MY DISCIPLES!” Didn’t Yahusha include himself just as the texts states they all sat down and ate? Also, in Luke it records Yahusha saying I have desired to eat this meal with you. He also states that “after this meal I won’t eat it with you anymore until I share it with you in the kingdom.” Why did he say that? Because this was the last meal before his death. Now in order to solidify and as they say, “put the nail in the coffin,” we have to define this word for passover. Because the word Passover used here is in what is known as the New Testament, we have to look up the word in the language it’s written in here. The New Testament is predominantly written in Greek and different areas, Aramaic. So let’s see what this Greek word is and means here. The New testament Greek word for Passover is [(blueletterbible.org) Strong's G3957 – pascha πάσχα – (meaning) the paschal sacrifice (which was accustomed to be offered for the people's deliverance of old from Egypt), the paschal lamb, i.e. the lamb the Israelites were accustomed to slay and eat on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan (the first month of their year) in memory of the day on which their fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door posts with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings; Christ crucified is likened to the slain paschal lamb, the paschal supper]

[(From biblehub.com) (Strong's G3957 – pascha  πάσχα) - Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: H6453 - פֶּסַח (pesach)   Usage: The term "pascha" refers to the Jewish festival of Passover, which commemorates the Israelites' deliverance from slavery in Egypt. In the New Testament, it is used to describe both the festival itself and the Passover lamb that was sacrificed. The Passover is a significant event in the Jewish calendar and is also pivotal in Christian theology, symbolizing Christ as the sacrificial Lamb.

Cultural and Historical Background: "The Passover is one of the most important Jewish feasts, instituted by God in Exodus 12. It marks the night when the Lord passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, sparing them from the plague of the firstborn. The festival involves the sacrifice of a lamb, the eating of unleavened bread, and the retelling of the Exodus story. In the New Testament, Jesus' Last Supper is understood to be a Passover meal, and His crucifixion is seen as the fulfillment of the Passover sacrifice, offering redemption from sin.]" FYI Nisan is the Babylonian month for Abib. We (Israelites) adopted the Babylonian calendar when we were enslaved to Babylon. Just as we are enslaved in America and in the diaspora, we go by a (completely different calendar) Gregorian/modified Julianish calendar system.

As you see for yourself, Yahusha ate the Passover lamb. The Greek word is pascha that means sacrificial lamb. That is the nail in the coffin just through the defining of words in the language(s) being used. The messiah kept the Passover and ate the Passover lamb. If we are followers of the messiah, how can we say we don’t have to if he and the apostles did it?

I choose to be safe and keep as much as we can what is commanded of us of Yah in His word. It’s through faith Passover was kept and should be kept. Many people try to find ways around keeping the Passover, but in the words of ach Vaun “you can’t show me where it says not to keep it.”

In the slavery of our ancestors during the Spanish/Portuguese inquisition, "black Jews" as they were called, was keeping Passover in a foreign land (Spain/Portugal), and forced to convert to Christianity during that time. Why invade them then? Because they were vulnerable during that season, enjoying the festivities of the day, and overtaken/enslaved during their time of celebration. If our ancestors were observing Passover after/during this European prelude to the Transatlantic slave trade, what about us? Are we better than they who were trying to keep it? Or have we strayed from the example of keeping it in the midst of those enemies that enslaved us? Consider this book reference "The Jews of Spain and Portugal and the Inquisition":

Notice the red rectangle states this act of slavery happened during Passover. Which was over 1000 years after messiah died. The black Jews were practicing in Europe
Notice the red rectangle states this act of slavery happened during Passover. Which was over 1000 years after messiah died. The black Jews were practicing in Europe

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. 28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them (the he is referencing Moses).

Many, such as I, are plant-based (vegan) and unfortunately, there are no alternatives used to replace the Passover meat. This is why partaking of the meal with the meat is an act of faith. It’s showing Yahuah that despite how I feel, I’m honoring what you said. In conclusion, did Yahusha keep/eat Passover? Absolutely! Are we to keep Passover? Absolutely! And if someone says we shouldn’t, have them to show, where does it say not to? Shalom
